Any idea what this does?

COMPUTE W50-STD-DEV =  W50-VARIANCE ** 0.5

IT WILL MULTIPLY W50-VARIANCE BY 0.5 TIMES.
** DENOTES EXPONENTIAL OPERATOR.

Yes, it is the exponential operator.
No, it is not multiplying, it is raising W50-VARIANCE to the 0.5 power, or the 1/2 power, which is equivalent to the square root of W50-VARIANCE.
