There are several breeders on this board, I hope one of them answers also.  The most important thing is to get her to a vet ASAP.  You need to find out if she is indeed pregnant, and if at all possible determine who or at least what breed the father is.

Chihuahuas are fragile breeders, those under 4 pounds as a general rule shouldn't be bred at all, and never breed to a male larger than the female.  If you can't figure out who the father is, the vet should closely monitor the size of the pups, a cesarean or even an abortion may be necessary to save the life of your Rosy.

In either case, please consider having her spayed.  The costs associated with breeding chihuahuas are much more than you could recoup by selling the pups, and the risks of losing the mother dog and/or the litter are just too high.

I bred my Chihuahua a few weeks ago with the same breed. How many weeks does it take for me to find out if she is pregnant? Is their anything I need to know? This is her first time trying, how many puppies will she have?

Nicole...congrats on Rosy! I just want to say my chihuahua's Diva and Mr.Pickle (came with their names!) have just a a litter of their own..and being there when it happened and watching the development of these little creatures was an unfogettible experience! Dont miss it for the world!
P.S. dont find it wierd or un-natural if the mother eats or licks of the sack that the pups come out in..its normal!

I find it amusing that breeders always tell others not to breed.
I think they are more concerned about loss of profit than the loss of a strange dog's life.

I hope Rosy turns out o.k, I would find out how big the pups are and no matter how much you want them and how much you love them if they are too big your sweet Rosy could die!  That is much more important(at least I think so) because she was your first and she loves you and you love her.
Good Luck

Hello!

First of all, very best of luck to you and your little dog.  I have a pregnant female named Chica & even though this is a carefully planned event, I share your anxiety.  Stay in close touch with your vet, make sure you know how to reach him/her in a emergency.  My vet has recommended x-rays, 2 views, in the last week of gestation, to determine the number and size of the pups, and hopefully predict any trouble.
