What are some good animals for kids around 6 years old? I have a 6 year old boy and he wants a animal but, I do not know what kind of animal to get besides a dog or cat. I mean that we can afford to feed. If anyone can help please feel free to e-mail me at mommyh69@msn.com. Thank you.

Dacshunds are NOT good for small children their backs are fragile one wrong move and it can paralize your doxie. Until a child is old enough to know the right way to hold a doxie I wouldn't refer this breed. I'm a vet and have seen to many accidents with this trust me. It might not happen right off but it eventually may.
