When did Johnson's outboard motors change over from point system to electronic? Can a motor built in 1972 using the points system be rebuilt and change over to the electronic system?

not sure about the year it started but yes it can be changed.the chips can be bought thru an outboard parts dealer.they simply wire in inplace of your points.
