I would like to know the cost/bail for this problem - cited for not wearing a seat belt in sonoma county, cA. I am out of state, but would like to pay the fine, now. I called the sonoma county traffic court number = 707 565-2300 and they say - they can't tell till the citation is 4 weeks "old" they also say it is a variable amount, depending on your record!!! How could this be!! A citation should be a set amount, where a citizen could look it up under a fee schedule, and pay it for heaven's sake...this is making a simple matter of paying a fee into a nightmare...

In California your first safety-belt violation generally will cost $60. However, if you have previous violations of the safety-belt law the fine will be 3 to 4 times as much. The law is structured to impose greater fines on repeat offenders.

I received a first seatbelt citation in approximately 1997 and it cost $125 in Santa Cruz County.  It cured me of not wearing my seatbelt for a couple of years.  I received my second citation today.  Not looking forward to finding out the cost!

how long do seatbelt tickets stay on your record until it is erased from your record?  I got a ticket a couple days ago, and it they charged me $147, I have two previous tickets, but they are from 5 & 3 years ago.  Is this the correct amount that they should be fining me?

I was under the impression that, in 1997, you could NOT be cited for not wearing a seat belt unless you were stopped for another infraction. True or False. And, if true, is that still the case? Thank you.

I received a seat belt ticket a few weeks ago in Huntington Beach, CA.  I got my bail amount today.  $84.00 or 137.50 for traffic school.  I thought it was pay a fine and be done but now the payment is stiff and I think it goes on your driving record where the insurance can go up.

I have had four seat belt tickets. This DESPITE no other violations in 30 years. While cars are speeding past at double the speed limit I'm stopped, ticketed and fined $200 a time. They passed this law claiming that it would ONLY be used as a secondary violation in case of a real violation. They lied then and they use it as a form of taxation now.

I just got my fine in the mail from Monterey County for a child non restraint and the ticket is a whoping $351!!! YIKES!
And it wasn't even like he didn't have his seat belt on, he was just "improperly restained" since he had wiggled the straps under his arms.

I got a seat belt ticket a couple weeks ago  - my first and they are charging me $101 - I say it's a racket.  I called the courts and they said it's not a moving violation ???!!  and that I don't have to attend traffic school because it doesn't carry any points !!!  Still a racket - hate 'em.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong here but doesnt the amended seatbelt code in ca. state that the first offense would be "not more than $20.00
And receiving a citation as a passenger would not constitute a moving violation as you are not the driver? Correct? Don't get me wrong I believe the law is a good one and studies show it's saving hunreds if not thousands of lives. But when as a passenger in a vehichle I see a chp on our right at a 4-way stop which reminds me "oh I've forgotten to buckle up" so I do so, this chp makes his left turn then proceeds to turn around stop us and issue a citation, my seatbelt was on before he turned around, can he really cite me if upon stopping us I am buckled up? and as the passenger in the vehichle not the driver did I have a right to refuse my DL. as identification?

Just got some info regarding my "not waring seat belt" citation -- which by the way I am going to fight, because the fact was I was indeed waring the belt, the police officer was very arrogant, and the whole thing was JUST Wrong-- $93 dollars in Los Angeles, CA, which must be paid up front if contesting, and only if/when winning contest - refunded back after so many months.  Also, when contesting citation, here in Los Angeles it must be in writing, witnessed, etc and MAILED into the court within the alloted time......my my how the judicial system spins......and what is so Nuts is that I was waring the darn seat belt..thank you very much!
