The "D" in "D-Day" stands for Doom, as in Dooms Day.

The D stands for the day an operation will occur.  Such as, Operation Iraqi Freedom will take place on D-Day.  In short the D merely symbolizes a coded designation for a particular Day something will occur.

i just read that the D means Day because it is just what the army said, like D for Day and H for Hour.
