You need to be able to do a little bit of algebra to be a pyro tech, there is a lot of chemistry involved, and a bit of physics too.  You should take at least 2 algebra classes in high school, coarse 1 & coarse 2.  those should lay down the laws of algebra, and show you basic skills that you will need.  Remember if you become a pyro tech, you need to be able to compile a site plan to lay out all the firework launch sites, time them all correctly, sometimes adjust for wind, and if you decide to make your own mixtures of chemicals to design your own fire work, you need to be able too mix the chemicals in proportions.  it's not as difficult as it sounds, if you like the job, you'll have no trouble at all.

No, you don't. When a show is put together, such as a them park show, a very skilled pyro technician and the fire inspector will determine the pyro lay out for the show. From then on out the day to day pyro technician need only take the prefabricated pieces and insure there safe handling and proper use.

Now a demolition technician is different. They only get one shot at it so they do a lot of math to ensure the proper result is achieved.

So, no comrade not need any advanced math comrade. So, if you want to be a conrade like us and work as a pyrotician comradem, join the communist army today and fight the economic boom George Bush has caused!

Is pyrotechnician a degree? I think it runs the lines of trade school degress, so I don't think you'd have to take many math classes like in college.

But it would invlolve physics, no doubt, and physics is very math dependant. To go far in physics, you need to get to a calculus level in math.
