My boyfriend wants to live and work here in NYC.  He's been told that with a J1 visa, after the 2 yr term, there is a "cooling off period" of 2-3 yrs; I was told the max is 90 days.  And we were told that the H1 requires a decent amount of sponsorship.  I read some of the articles posted and realize that we cannot or should not rather, get married while he holds an J1, but after another 2 years of living together we may wish to do so.  Is it easier to just rush our marriage along or to apply for the J1 and hope that the "cool off period" isn't as long as 2 yrs?
