We recently bought a 6 week old Chihuahua. I thought we had done enough research before buying her, but now I´m realizing that 6 weeks old is probably a bit too young. She sleeps almost all the time, only getting up to play for short stretches. I`m worried that she is weak or depressed. Is it normal for a baby Chihuahua to be so sleepy?

I would take her to the vet ASAP!  She may not be getting enough nutrition, also she may have worms (most puppies do, it's not a sign of neglect or a bad breeder) which should be treated.

At six weeks, she should be rather active, so she may indeed be missing her litter mates.  I suggest lots of cuddling, let her sleep in your lap, the warmth and sound of your heartbeat should soothe her.  If you're worried about getting peed on, put a towel under her and fold it over to make a pocket into which you put the puppy.

Definitely get her to the vet, she needs to get on a regular schedule of vaccinations, and the vet can reassure you of what's normal and not.  If your clinic doesn't have someone knowledgeable in toy breeds, find another, as toy's have some special needs.

And of course, the traditional recommendation to get the book Chihuahuas for Dummies, which is the best book I know on the care and maintenance of these adorable little creatures.
