Australia feared communism due to the fact that they thought if Vietnam fell so would Australia, this was referred to as the "Domino effect".  This resulted in the policy of "forward defence".  Which provoked Australia to take action before the "Domino effect" of communism spread throughout Asia and the western world.

One reason as to why Australia was involved-in the Vietnam war was to prevent Hitler, a growing threat from taking over Bosnia which would stop the production of coal.

Australian involvement in the Vietnam war was due to Australia's tendency to look to more powerful countries for protection. After realizing that we could no longer rely on our previous ally England, we searched for protection from America and to prove our devotion we had to go along with America and agree with their policies. We also agreed with their attempt of containment of communism as our fear of the domino theory (made worse by Australia's positioning)made us feel vulnerable to infiltration or attack by communists. We thought logically and realized that sending a small amount of men to fight for the U.S actually prevented loss of life by securing their help if we were attacked. This is similar to the way that we have sent a token amount of men to Iraq in the recent war on terrorism. When you compare numbers you realize that Australia actually barely contributed to the effort.

Australia's involvement in the second world war was due to the fear of communism and the already visible "domino effect" (the effect that communism was spreading across the world and nocking down countries like dominoes). Australia was also involved in WWII due to America's involvement.
