The only good way to preserve it is to keep it refrigerated. This will allow you to keep it for at least 2-3 months, safely.

Any kind of peanut butter is high in oil content, and oil becomes rancid (oxidized) very quickly. Not only will it taste bad, it is unhealthy for your body when this happens because oxidized oils are full of free radicals that can damage cells.

Now - I suppose you could freeze it for even longer life, if you need to.

peanut butter in its self has a self life of over a year with no addtional perserities. Just be sure to use ONLY Peants and small amount of cooking oil. If you use margin or butter then you well need a perservitive.

Salting and refrigeration are the common ways of preserving nearly all foodstuffs.  One of the local grocers has a peanut grinder, so you can get a bunch of fresh, all-natural, unsalted peanut butter, and this lasts about three months in the fridge before any noticeable change in flavor!  Freezing the butter would probably work, too, if you are looking for longer preservation times.

Well, Corene, the answer is quite simple. As you make the peanut butter, simply kill 6 field mice, no more and no less. Take out the pancreas from each mouse and squeeze the juice from it. Mix the juice with the juice of a fresh apricot. Then, let the mixture sit for exactly 3 weeks, 4 days, and 21 hours in a warm location. Drink this aged mixture. The next time you have a bowel movement, save it. Put the feces in a blender with a sprig of parsley. Now, put the blended mixture in your peanut butter and it should have a shelf life of at least 13 years. And by the way, You're so welcome.

Add a spoonful of Nivea's Vitamin-Enriched Oderless Anti-Aging Cream.  The chemicals in Nivea's product are non-toxic and will not harm your body.  The cream will help sustain the surface tension of the peanut butter and keep moisture and flavor from escaping.

When you have placed the peanut butter in the jar place it in the micro wave to melt then leave it out in the sun for 1 day, that will make it last for about 3 months. Happy cooking!

According to the Editors of National Gardening, Peanut butter may be canned for storage. Pack the peanut butter into hot, sterilized jars, leaving one inch of headspace. Adjust lids. Process half-pints in a boiling water bath for one hour.
