I just purchased a 1997 Chrysler Sebring JXi.  The oil light comes on when I'm sitting at a light, but will go off if I give it just a little bit of gas. The person I purchased it from I know well and they said they've had it looked at several times and the mechanics couldn't find anything wrong.  What do you suggest I do?

I've just purchased a Sebring and it is doing the same thing.  Based off of my research, it looks like it's a faulty Oil Pressure Sending Unit (or switch, in this case).  The sender is reporting an incorrect oil pressure, and as a result, it is tripping the light on your dash.  Check to ensure your oil levels are good, and you can get the switch replaced (part is 20-30 dollars, and easy to do if you're mechanically inclined).

Hope this helps

This must be a common problem with late 90's Chrysler products.  I just started having the same thing happen to me beginning last week with my '97 Cirrus.  Immediately after seeing the oil pressure lamp go on, I pulled over to check the oil level, and it was fine.

We bought a 2000 Chrysler Concorde, and after a month, it started doing this as well. Light only on when sitting at a light after car has been warmed, and tach drops below 500.  Runs great, oil level fine, new oil. Odd to me.

I am experiencing the same exact problem with my 1998 Limited.  I just had the switch replaced, but the light still comes on from time to time.

Did this happen to you even after the switch was replaced?
