Hallie, your piercing needle should already be sterile in the packaging. DO NOT reuse the needle after once, regardless on how many times you sterilize it with alcohol or otherwise.

When i had my belly button pierced i washed my hands then put on a pair of brand new rubber gloves (like hospital gloves) then i put the needle in a clean shot glass of hydrogen peroxide. i let sit for about 5 minutes then took a cotton ball and dryed it off. if you don't dry it off it may slip out of your hands maybe causing a rip in the skin. DO NOT use a liter to sterilize your needle even though it does kill the bacteria it also leaves sulfur which depending on the skin could infect or irritate. rubbing alcohol also works. if you have a halo needle make sure no skin is trapped inside that could cause serious problems with your peircing as far as infections and even diseases. i hope what i said helps...

Well, the best way to get a 14 gauge sterilized needle would be to buy one. It's not very safe to use needles that have already been removed from their sterile packaging. Besides, would you rather spend a few dollars (I get my needles 50 for $10.00, so you could imagine how much one would cost...) This is not my advice, this is simply a procedure that would sterilize it.

Find a small cup and place your needle in it. Pour rubbing alcohol into the cup until the needle is fully submerged. Allow this to sit for a few minutes. Another way would be to boil it in a pot of water. You could always do both to be sure. But wear clean rubber gloves when handling it, or sterilizing it will be pointless.

To sterilize needles it's best to use an autoclave which is one of the only ways to kill all germs or get your piercings professionaly done.
