How do I determine why my ftp via a pipe process does not complete sucessfully?  The ftp is about 95% complete and then abruptly goes to the close command.

open(FTP,"$ftpcmd|");                            
open(F,"| cat $file");          
        while (<FTP>)                                              {
                $c++;      
print "$_";                                
        }                                                  
close(F);
