If memory serves, her marriage to the Dauphin was arranged due to her mother's ties with France which was rich, powerful and the sworn enemy of England.

Mary was sent to France at the age of 5 so I highly doubt it was for love. Mary's maternal uncles thought a union between mary and francis would be to their advantage because through the marriage Scotland would fall under french rule or at least unite the countries, due to the fact that Mary although a crowned queen in her own right was still under the control of her husband.

Mary went to France because her mother sent her there! She had no choice! She was only 6 years old and they also wanted her 2 get a totally good education, France had the best educational services. So she never chose 2 go 2 France, her mother chose for her.

Does anybody know why Queen Elizabeth wanted to keep Mary Queen of Scott's alive? I think she probably felt some compassion for her because she was after all her cousin, and it could B coz she didn't want to get on the bad side of all the Catholics coz if the got wind of her execution the probably would've killed her straight off, I dunno, but can sum1 give me a good reason why Queen Elizabeth the 1st kept Mary alive?

THE CALL OF DUTY IN NOBLE FAMILIES IS KNOWN FOR CENTURIES.  THIS IS THE REASON WHY ELIZABETH I DID NOT GET MARRIED.  SHE WAS QUESTIONED THOUSAND TIMES TO MARY SPAIN, OR FRANCE'S GAY NOBLE ARROGANT PRINCE.  SOMETIMES THERE IS LOVE BUT MOST OF THE TIME IS JUST A CALL OF DUTY TO THE CROWN.

Mary went when she was three because there was war in Scotland.  She ended up staying there for the rest of her life and the marraige was arranged.  She never felt true love for him.
