The Civil War started when the first shots were fired on fort Sumter. Fort Sumter was on Confederate land and it was a Union fort. The Confederate States of America were states that seceded from the Union due to the fact that they needed slavery for their sole economy. The Confederates fired on the Union fort and so the war had begun. It would take over three years for the south to rejoin the Union.

it started on April 12,1861 when confederate states fired on the union fort.It also started when the south and north were disagreeing on whether it should be slavery or not. Of course the north didn't want it because they were an industrialized country and the south was a farming country.another time it was fired up is when south Carolina broke away from the union and many states followed after south Carolina which made the north mad.

Fort Sumter was on a small rocky island off the coast of  South Carolina. The Union and Confederate army both thought the war would only last a couple of weeks. It turned out to be over 3 years. The Union had no reason to attack, but when the Confederate army fired their first shot, the Union thought this to be an act of war. They took immediate action. Thus, the war began.
