Would the correct sentence be:

None of us is a good painter.  Or,
None of us are a good painter.  Or,
None of we is a good painter.  Or,
None of we are a good painter.

Think of "none" as a shorter way of saying "not one".
Which sounds better?

Not one of us is a good painter.
Not one of us are a good painter.

The first one sounds right to me.

So "None of us is a good painter" is my preference.

'painter' should be plural to agree with 'us'

So the Solomon's song "None of us are free" is grammaticaly wrong ?
