How do I change the IP address on a AIX RS6000.

Login to a command line session as root.

type: smitty tcpip

and follow the dialogues for basic network configuration.

DON'T DO IT FROM THE CDE and try to do it in single user mode rather than when the machine is running in multiuser mode.

Get on console


# smit tcpip -> Further Configuration -> Network Interfaces ->
  Network Interface Selection ->
  Change / Show Characteristics of a Network Interface


At this point, choose the enX interface you want to change, most likely 'en0'
and then you will be presented with a menu with a place to put the address
and netmask.
