The Canadian liberal government (may it soon die a horrible death), is fearful of outside cultural influences.  In order to promote "Canadian culture," the beast has decreed Direct Tv illegal.  Though there are supposedly economic issues at stake for the Canadian satellite companies (as Canadian TV stinks and would quickly be consumed by the superior American market), this political issue is the primary concern.
