In 1937 Congress passed the "1937 Marijuana Tax Act" and made marijuana illegal and highly fineable

Because a guy basically wanted to cash in on a once in a lifetime opportunity during the "prohibition" act, when ridding such things was popular. Marijuana is no more harmful than getting drunk.

I think that it should become legal because its one on the healiest drugs out there...and you never hear about anyone dying of smoking it to much or been doing it for so many years.

The first act by Congress did not make marijuana illegal but it did enact a strict tax of one dollar (about twelve dollars today) to anyone who dealt with marijuana. If you did not abide by these rules there was a very strict penalty of two thousand dollars (roughly twenty four thousand dollars today) or five years of imprisonment. These fines were so high that even though marijuana wasn�t considered completely illegal, it was unattainable legally. (This was the Marihuana Tax Act of 1937)
