what gasoline would give me better gas mileage in my 95 Nissan sentra and why?

87 Octane will be fine. Your car has a knock sensor which makes it run the most efficient based on conditions and fuel.

I did a project on this and the answer is 89 octane       is the best gasoline.

It depends somewhat on the altitude where you live. If you know how to detect (hear) knocking or pinging, use the lowest octane you can use without causing pinging or knocking. Then you have achieved the most miles per gallon AND the most miles per dollar. It takes slightly more crude oil and energy to produce hi octane gasoline than it does to produce lower octane. Go with the lowest you can without ping or knock. If you have no clue what you are listening for, use what your owners manual suggests
