Will a seatbelt violation (California) appear on my driving record and/or add points to my driver's license? In other words, if I pay the bail, does it just go away like a parking ticket, since it's not a moving violation or a traffic school applicable ticket, or not?  My fine is $84, everything I read about this law states $20.

no it wont show up on your record, nor does it affect the points. it also is never reported to the insurance. so rest assured, just pay it and youll be safe.

Not sure if this is true. I got three last year and they have appeared on my record. The first two were $24.00, and the last was $70.00. All three were in LA County. How does one get them removed from the record?

its $84 because assembly bill 1627 made $20 the base fine effective 1/1/04. it's no longer the max, so they add tons of surcharges and fees, same as speeding tickets.

actually, it does show up on your record. (It is on mine!) Shows up as 27315 in the Vehicle Code.  As far adding points/affecting insurance I don't know.

This answer is incorrect.  I started working at a defense contractor (Raytheon), and as part of the hiring process, they did a background check.  In fact, the 2 violations I received in the past 5 years did show up, so this is inaccurate.

However, no points against my license were assessed, and it was apparently also not reported to my insurance company either.

previous poster is correct, here is a list of california moving violations and the points associated:
http://www.dmv.ca.gov/dl/vioptct.htm

from the list, it appears that if there is a child in the car without a seat belt, or without a kiddie seat if they need one, that would be a 1 point violation for the driver.

From the California Vehicle Code:
Violation Point Count: Exception

12810.2.   Notwithstanding subdivision(e) of Section 12810, no violation point count shall be given for a conviction of a violation of Section 27315.

Actually, I am in California and I recently paid a fine for not wearing my seatbelt.  I have a DMV printout right here in front of me and I can see the entry that DMV made for my seatbelt violation. However, it does show zero points for that violation. Vehicle Code: 27315D
Just as an F.Y.I. -  If I can see it on the printout, I'm sure the insurance companies can see it too!
