Dogs apparently eat earthworms because they smell and taste good. They are generally a good source of protein but they also have the possibly of transmitting roundworms (Toxocara Sp) to the dog because earthworms sometimes ingest soil laden with the eggs of these roundworms deposited in dog feces.

earth worms have a high protein value and might therefor be natural attractive to your dog. Nothing wrong with eating insects in general btw, they are a very good protein source.
