My Chrysler 2002 Town & Country van just completely stops working while I am driving if the temperature is greater than 80 degrees and I have been in stop & go traffic for about 15 minutes. Dealer has tried to fix problem about 5 times and the minivan still keeps shutting off. The last time, he changed/replaced the idle motor. If I wait about 15 - 20 minutes, I am able to re-start the car. Anyone else ever experience this problem?

We just returned from a trip to SC in my 2003 Town & Country van.  We sat in a traffic jam for over an hour (very hot day) & after we got to our destination & turned off the motor, the van would not start.  This happened several times & then the next day, the engine just cut out several times while driving & the last time it would not start.  We had it towed to a dealer who took an entire day to determine the problem was a power control module.  It only had 13,000 miles on it.  The cost was about $1200.00 but fortunately was under warranty. What I felt was scary was the fact that the engine just cut out.  This is potentially a very dangerous situation & we were not willing to start a 600 mile trip home until it was resolved.  I wonder if Chrysler has had more of these problems. The other major problem we had was the sway bar broke.  I noticed that it was making squealing noises when I turned the wheel for a hard turn.  Grammy

Long ago I had an oldsmobile with a similar problem! In my case after driveing  and shutting off the engine it would not restart until the engine cooled for 20 minutes or so!An auto electric mechanic finally discovered that a winding in the ignition coil had broken. When the coil heated up from the engine heat, the wire seperated and the engine would not start. When the coil cooled, the wires came together again, then I could start the engine again!Good luck!

Try the crankshaft sensor.  I had a 1996 Van that acted in a similar way and that is what it was.  Mine would stall the next time I stopped after being on a highway for about 20 miles.  Then it wouldn't start for about 5 minutes.

I have never had mine stop but I have had what felt like a eternity to only be about 10 secs of....like the van about to stall while driving. Pressing on the gas didnt make a difference. This happened within the first year a few times and occasionally after. I dont know if it has anything to do with your problem but something I havent been able to prove to anyone else.

you need to determine whether it is electrical or mechanical. if it is electrical it sounds exspensive(ecu-computer). if its mechanical it could be head/gasket. one way or the other it sounds like you need to find another dealership. if i was to bet i would say a crack in the head, once your car warms up this allows the aluminum to seperate allowing antifreeze into the piston rather than fuel and your car cannot run on coolant.
