I have a 2 yr old Schipperke who has just started a very odd and irritating behavior. Although he has been taken outside to do his business, he will suddenly start panting..shaking and running to the back door, front window then tries to get up on things, like my stereo, glass shelve unit, bangs the doors downstairs, opens closet doors and under the sinks cabinet doors to try to get in. Can someone please tell me what is going on with him? I put  him in his cage and he wont lay down, just tries to get out. He has never acted this way before. Thanks for any input.

I'd go with the above answers. Also, he may have seen something new outside and thus want to go check it out.

Is he neutered?  It may be that, even if he is, there's a female dog in heat somewhere.  That might make him frantic; male dogs reach maturity at around two years of age.  Otherwise call your vet, and if that doesn't work, consult a trainer.  It's always best to rule out medical possibilities first, then go to behavioral.  Incidentally, sometimes subsonic or ultrasonic sound can do this as well, and you would never know.

I have a 10 year old schipperke and he has been doing the same thing for years. All it is, is his excitement or he just wants to play. You should try to keep him out of his cage for awhile or longer so he can calm down.
