Our chi eats grass in the morning until he vomits foamy bile, and he chews/licks his paws at night.

He is about 2 yrs old, we have had him for about a month, got him at the Humane Society. Within a few days of getting him, he did this several days in a row, prior to our already-scheduled vet check-up. The vet diagnosed him with mild kennel cough and possible allergies, prescribed two different medicines (can't remember what they were called, didn't save empty bottles, but one was some sort of anti-biotic, the other some sort of steroid). This cleared up the kennel cough and he also stopped chewing his toes and coughing up bile in the morning. But the medication ended about 10 days ago and he has just re-started these traits (but no cough). Not sure if it's related to end of meds or not. He seems to eat the grass to intentionally induce vomiting. Afterward, he has no appetite for about an hour, but then eats and acts normally for the rest of the day. Suggestions?

My little ones have both been reintroduced to the outdoors after spending the Minnesota winter cooped up inside.  They both love their 'salad' and are making me nuts eating grass.  I don't know why they are doing it.

Ask your vet for a few days course of the same medications.  If you find the same thing happening, then it's the meds treating a symptom of something else, if no change it was coincidence.  Maybe the dog is allergic to something in the house, your carpet shampoo, floor cleaner, etc.  Sorry I'm not more help.
