I have a 1992 Cabriolet. The car has a dead spot at 2500 RPMs. The cold idle is horrible and I had to turn the idle up for the car to run while waiting for red lights. Hard acceleration will cause the engine to turn off. The car runs well at a constant speed but sometimes goes completely crazy in traffic (Revs up and down and misses). If I turn it off then back on, it straightens up. Can anyone guess what my problem is? The compression is perfect. VW dealer ran a diagnostic test and said the car was fine. The car just passed the State of Georgia Emission Test on a dynomometer. When it runs well it seems like everything is fine but when it acts up it is a major POS. I have put $5000.00 in new parts on this car. I am so frustrated. HELP!!!!!

I'd check the Distributor cap and rotor.
Fuel pressure regulator/fuel pumps
