I have come across the infamous 1840 note, complete with New York Philadelphia, six pictures of presidents, serial number 8894, December 15th 1840, and Bank of the United States written on it. What has got me curious is that it was not written on parchment paper. I realize the chances of it being authentic are slim, but how can I find out for sure. Funny part was that it was found behind a painting purchased at a tag sale. Probably hidden thinking it was real or someone playing a joke.

Hi..I would think if the signatures are printed in black ink and not hand signed in pen with brown ink you do have one of the thousands of copies that fool a lot of people.

I also inherited a 1000 dollar note from The Bank of The United States of America...G W. Fairmar.....Dec 15th 1840....#8894. I was told by a coin collector that thousands of these were handed out at a worlds fair. I'm still researching, but it seems most valuable framed and hanging on my wall.
