To be an astronaut, you must usually join the Air force and become a pilot.  The best thing to do is to join the rotc program in your high school, then attend the Air force academy.  There are, however, other astronautical positions, such as Aerospace engineer, for which you need not be military personnel.  One of the best schools for this training is Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Fla.

the air force academy or naval academy are good options for getting into an aviation program, since they provide a large percentage of military pilots, but any rotc program will give you a shot.  a technical degree is normally a requirement as well.  normally you'll have to start out flying something else, then transfer into the nasa program.

Air Force Academy all the way. Depends where you are though. If you are in Highschool and in AFJROTC, then you have a better chance to get into an air force academy. Embry riddle aeronautical University is a good one, too, if your anywhere near florida. No matter where you go though, you have to do some service in the Air Force. A lot of service actually. You don't just graduate and then get on the Challenger. Get good grades, do well in a JROTC if you're in one, and you should be fine.
