We have an English Bulldog that has many health problems, especially skin problems.  She is constantly chewing at her feet and rubbing her face.  We have her on vet dog food of fish and potatoes, which has helped somewhat.  We are at the end of our rope as what to do. We need more advise than what our vet has given us.  Any ideas?

I also have an English Bulldog, and he was suffering from the same things, but his was much worse. I found out he was allergic to some arthritic stuff we were giving him. I simply went to the Pharmacy and told the Pharmacist that he was having an allergic reaction and she told me to purchase an over the counter anti-histamine and that cleared him right up.Your dig could be having a mild allergic reaction and you to could possibly try this remedy, it's alot cheaper than the vet, you just have to tell the pharmacist how much it weighs for a proper dosage. Well good luck

Ask your veterinarian if he/she carries a medication called Atopica by Novartis.   It is an expensive drug, but is said to help pets with dermatitis related to allergies.
I have not seen results personally, but have heard Novartis reps discussing the drug.

my bulldog has knee problems. When he walks you can hear the joint click. Once in a great while it bothers him so much he refuses to walk on it at all. What can be done about this problem. We have given him anti-inflamatories and it helps temporarily but I want a permanant fix.

I just got a bulldog too. She developed many skin problems, she had scabs all over her body and stomach.  The vet put her on penicillin... and now about a week later she is almost cleared up.
Thanks,
Melissa

I had an English bulldog that passed away a couple of years ago at 8. He did the same obsessive chewing (in fact I had to have his teeth cleaned because of hair packing between.) He had small bumps that raised up on his feet (like clear warts. ) I guess that is what itched. Vet's remedies did not help. A breeder at a dog show told me to soak his feet in "summer's Eve" douche (of all things.) It helped the bumps. I sprayed his feet with bitter apple from a pet store. That did the trick. No biting and chewing of the feet. Hang in there a Bulldog is worth the effort.

I have an english bulldog too and she has many problems. The only advice i can give is to just be patient. Our dog, Lucy, had problems so severe she was going to die. It has taken her two years and she is pretty healthy right now. Just give your dog some time and maybe try going to other vets to get their opinions. Good luck!
