I am interested in installing a cold air intake kit for my 97 Jetta 2.0. The prices vary greatly. From about $48 for a Vibant kit #2215 or a Toucan kit # SF1002, Next is Neuspeed at $155 for kit # 651060 w/airpump and 651064 w/o airpump, finaly $255 for an Injen short ram intake # IS3010p. This may be a dumb question but do you get what you pay for or is it just paying more for a name??

Well, some of the cheaper cold air intakes get really hot after a while. I have a k&n coi and it is cold as ice. If you get a cheap one, you can get some engine 'heat resistant' paint, and that should do the trick.

I own a 2001 Toyota Corolla S and I completely removed the stock Air Filter system and replaced it with a standard Cold Air Intake System I purchaced from E-bay, along with something called a tornado I purchaced from the parts store for about 70 bucks, I only spent 25 dollars on e-bay and the corolla Hauls Ass! I got more horse power and spend less money for gas.  It does matter how much you spend but not!  Of course K&N and OEM Air Filters are better but don't spend the money if you dont have to!

your wasting your money on a cold air intake first off because the engine is already preset for the stock parts. adding a cold air intake will only see maybe 3 hp. the only way to make more power (noticeable) is with bigger heads, forced induction, or NOS. Adding any of those to a fuel injection vehicle will only see your engine run lean (with the exception of NOS).

But if your intent on getting a "cold air intake" a name doesn't matter, it depends on how good it filters, and how much air it flows. They're all made in china anyway

Definetly, name brand is always better. I bought a Bomz cold air intake for my celica and I had alot of trouble putting it in. I had to cut it down to a short ram to fit it in. But know I bought a Injen for my Celica and it pretty much just came together alot easyer. The name brand is always the best way to go even if you pay more.
