My Golden is scratching endlessly and has several hot spots.  He has been washed with a flea shampoo and has been rinsed throughly.  What can I give him to relieve the discomfort?  Can I give him a human pill like advil? or a cream or ointment.  I don't want to visit the vet.

It could be food allergies, it could be inhalent allergies, could be flea allergies, could be allergic to the shampoo. Does he have mats? Sounds like he needs a doctor, to me. I bet if you were itching so bad you were chewing your skin raw, YOU would go to the doctor.

If you took him to the vet the vet could tell you if you can use human pills. Even try calling a vet and see there opinion on it.
