Hello Joseph,

I assume that by "tabs" you mean individual sheets within an Excel document (or "workbook"), since each sheet is selectable by its tab along the bottom of the screen.

In Excel 2000 and 2002 (aka Excel XP), there is no set limit on the number of sheets (or tabs) that can be included in any given workbook.  According to Microsoft, the number of sheets is only limited by available memory.  So, someone with 512Mb of RAM in their computer is going to be able to have many more sheets within their Excel file than someone with, say, 128Mb or 256Mb of RAM.

Unfortunately, I do not have copies of Excel 95 or 97 to verify whether they work the same way, but if you do have one of these versions, you can find the answer in Excel Help.  Just search in the Office Assistant or Answer Wizard for "specifications" and you should see a list of all of the limits and specs for your Excel files.  (You can do this in 2000 or XP as well, if you're curious about your other limits.)

Hope this helps.  Good luck with your spreadsheet!

Cheers,
Eric
