21 days is the average(three weeks), but depending on the dog it can last as long as 4 weeks.

Most dogs are in heat for 21 days but they only bleed for about 4-9 days!!! My puppy went into heat for the first time the other day and I bought a dog pad/diaper for her. You can put a pad in it and wrap it around her bottom! Also you Spay a female dog not nueter!!!

I just read that it's three weeks total and if she is bleeding after 3 weeks, it could be hormonal and she should taken to a vet.  I adopted a dog from the shelter that was too thin to spay.  Now that I am able to take her to be spayed, she came into heat.  I've always rescued dogs and of course, they are always spayed.  This is a first for me.  I never want to go through this again.  Get your baby spayed/neutered ASAP.

I have a German Shepherd and she is in heat. I was just wondering about how long she will be in heat and how often.
