ALTERNATING CURRENT / DIRECT CURRENT Alternating current is different from DC in that it "periodically" changes polarity. "Periodically" in the United States is 120 times/second. This is 60 complete cycles per second. I will go into more detail about different types of AC voltage measurements later in this tutorial. Direct current (DC) is the type of current that is supplied by batteries. The electrical force exerted by the battery is constant. This does not mean that it never changes, but it is not constantly changing polarity. The "difference of potential" (means the same as voltage) stays either positive or negative with respect to its "reference" (usually designated as ground). AC/DC the band. They got the name from theyre guitar amps and stuff because of the high voltage sounds.

It has nothing to do with Anti Christ buddy... [Info taken from 'Shock To The System' by Mark Putterford, & from VH1's "Behind the Music" profile of AC/DC] The Young's sister Margaret suggested something she'd seen on the back of a vacuum cleaner: 'AC/DC'. According to Angus, "It had something to do with electricity, so it seemed to fit...". The Young brothers were ignorant of the bisexual connotation that the term carried, and after opening for bisexual rocker Lou Reed, many gay clubs tried to book them...convinced they were a bisexual group. Malcolm tells a slightly different story in the VH1 "Behind the Music" profile of AC/DC...he says it was Margaret's sewing machine that provided the inspiration for the band's name.

Hi! :-) The official and correct reason of the name is that the Young brother's sister read the letters "AC/DC" from her mother's sewing machine. AC and DC are both electrical symbols meaning "Alternating Current" and "Direct Current". And sice the band was (and still is) a band that uses electric guitars and plays loud, volumous, rock'n'rollthose symbols fitted the band very well. So when you say "really", I guess that you refer to the rumors that the letter's true meaning is "After Christ the Devil Comes", "Anti Christ / Devil's Children" etc etc etc. But I am almost certain that this is not the band's intention. Because there are almost no references to the devil or god or any religious relation in the AC/DC lyrics. Besides the song "Highway to Hell", there are no symbols used on the band members. Angus Young usually wears two horns during that song. But if you listen to the song, you can hear that there are no sympathy for the devil or anything like that in that song. The song is about living on the road watching himself falling apart. Or something like that. The same with "Hell ain't a bad place to be". Theis is about living with a person/girl that use everything you have. But you can live eith that. Because it ain't so bad after all. It is almost always religious groups that puts out those rumors, because then they have a reason to hate them. Especially in the 70's and 80's when that kind of music was considered "heavy", "noisy" and "unethical". The band has no Satanic worship, I doubt very strongly that they worship anything at all, except their fans and their musical professions. I cannot see how people can accuse AC/DC of being satanic. They never wear satanic or religious symbols, they don't explicitly wear black clothes, they don't sing about the devil, they don't execute satanic rituals. Feel free to read the song lyrics, and you will find that AC/DC sings about girls, alcolhol, rock'n'rolllove and adventures. No deeper than that. AC/DC is a pure rock'n'rolland living and breathing for their music and fans. They are not satanic believers, and the name AC/DC does not mean anything satanic.

ACDC has something to do with electric currents...it has something to do with high and low voltages, which makes sense, they made an album called "High Voltage" and in the ACDC logo there is an electric bolt seperating AC and DC...there is a lot more science to it but thats the main idea...has to do with electricity.

AC/DC has something to do with with electric currents...i'm not sure of the actualy meaning but I know it's in the ball-park with electric currents. This makes sense because a lot of their songs have to do with lighting and thunder and voltages and all this electric stuff. And Also on the AC/DC logo there is a thunderbolt that is susposed to be the slash, so there is some more reason.
