Dobermans shouldn't "turn" on you.  The only times I've heard of that happening are if the dog wasn't trained properly, old age (senility), or if the dog really thought a member of the family was in danger.  All of these can occur with any breed. (I was attacked by a beagle when I was a child.)

If you get a Dobie, purchase a puppy from a reputable breeder.  Socialize your puppy and get him trained.  I also recommend that you supervise or seperate your dog when your children have several friends over just so there aren't any accidents.  I'd also recommend this for any other breed as well.

My Dobie is a sweetie and she came from a family that had a girl about 3 or 4 yrs old and an infant.  The family had both of my Dobie's parents and they were great with the children. Most Dobies are great family pets.  Since Dobies are protective, there's a chance they'll attack your childrens' friends if they feel your children are being attacked.  That's why I recommend the supervision.

Um, no not exactly, it all depends on the way you discipline it. It's all the same with the big agressive type breeds, you just have to show them whos boss, and dont let them take control over you.

One day it might be "woof-woof", the next day "growl-growl."

Im actually my self about to get a doberman and i browsed around looking at information and found out that if a doberman as a puppy socialiazed weith kids and other dogs would turn out to be much better however it is still advised that dobermans and such large dogs should not be with children under the age of atleast 9 un supervised as the dog is very powerful could injure the child just by playing.
