After you gauge your earing from a 14 to a 8 is it ok for it to bruise, bleed, and swell? PLEASE HELP ME IT HURTS!!!!

I no nothing about earring sizes, but it sounds like you broke a blood vessel...Ice it as much as possible.

you went too big too fast. it will be sore for a while. i went 14, 12, 10, 8, 6 no bleeding or anything like that.

u probably ripped your ear.  14 to an 8 isn't that big of a jump if you use a taper or a lubricant.  if you decide to go any bigger i recommend going to a proffesional.  (i went from 22 to 14 to 10 to 4 to 0 to 00)

Take it slow i had a tribal earing put in and it had to expand gradualy, it is a 0x12  size

I have a 6 in right now....i went from piercing my ears with a safty pin to a 14...to a 12....to a 10...to a 8...then to a 6...along the way to strech my hole i used chop sticks and other stuff like that...the hardest to do was my 8 to a 6 b/c the way the stud was. It had a wholein the middle so i had to use sumthing b4 i put it in...But neways i didnt lube it up or nething and i went this far in 2 weeks without tearing...

I just got my nipples pierced. 14g... it's hot. still a little sore, but definately worth it. i say have fun with the piercings. just don't take it too far.. the guy's right about your future occupation. unless you want to be hammering rich people's houses and mowing their lawns for the rest of your lives, then think about your decision thoroughly.

i started on a 14.. adn it was too small.. so i got a 12 right away so amelia... it shouldnt be that big of a jump... but i am still on a 12... i just got them today

i started with a regular piercing like you would get at walmart or somewhere.i gauge it straight to a 12g and it bleed a little bit but it didn't bruise or swell.you should have started with a 12g then to a 10g and then to a 8g.

hey you definitely ripped your ear you gotta watch out for stuff like that you should have taken it slow go up gradually until you think you want to stop i went from a zero to almost a 1/2 inch it was'nt that bad i also have a prince Albert that is gauged at a 10 gauge but if you want any more advice get a hold of  me here pierced_pleasures04@yahoo.com or hot_4_u2099_75@hotmail.com

I went from like a 18, to a 16, to a 14, to a 12, to a 10, to a 8 to a 6 and now i'mtrying to get my 4 in but it hurts like hell and my ear wont let it go in, so yeah i'mgonna try a bunch of stuff.

OK i went from 16 to 4 just yesterday and my ear is a bit sore but it feel fine and it didn't ripped my ear hole at all.  All i can say about it is that like it said in there some were ICE IT.  I peirced my ear with a stud and it hurt and ice makes it feel fine. I MEAN ICE MAKES IT FEEL REALLY REALLY GOOD.

i just pierced my cartilage with a hollow 16g needle and then went strait to a 12g and nothing happened in ways of negative effects. don't take aspirin, as it is a blood thinner, not a good idea.

Yeah I got my ears pierced at a piercing place and they did it with hospital gauge and i just put these new 1's in and im damn sure i pushed em too far, i think i ripped my ear. They are a lil swollen and they were bleeding for a bit. anything else i could do to help me from cutting off my ear? lolz

Well I just did it from regular pierced hole to 8 gauge, little sore but no blood and it was easy, lol, kind of like getting your ass raped by a black guy, thats it.. u just gotta have balls and it takes a second... hehe, i love it btw

i got my ear lobes pierced with i think an 18g and went to a 14 after a few months. after about a year (two days ago) i put in a taper at 8g
the taper fell out and i lost it, so i just now put in another one that i had which is 2g. i put lotion on the 2g and pushed it through in the shower. first i wet my ear with a very very hot washcloth and let the ear loosen up for a few minutes, then i slowly forced the taper through, it took about 5-8 minutes.
there's a small bruise-looking thing on the back of my ear, it may be a fluid bubble or, obviously, a bruise.
it hurt a lot when i was first putting it in, but i changed the way i was pushing and it didn't hurt and the rest went in very quickly (it was about half way through when it got stuck and the way that worked was bracing the earlobe and slowly pushing it toward the wide end of the taper, and at the same time slowly pushing the taper through against the lobe, it went a lot faster than just trying to push it through.) i don't know if it was better or worse that my ear was not fully healed from the 14 to 8 stretch.
it's starting to hurt. i'm going to try ice.

I went from a 18 gauge to a 8 gauge and it didn't rip, i used LOTS and LOTS of lube, if you use lube it helps alot.....

yeah i went from no piercing to a 6g, and i let that close up to an 8g...every ear is different, thats all i can say. my friend did it with me (we did it ourselves)...his ear bled realllly bad, like dripping off his ear. mine had one drop of blood and it stopped. we had the same spot and everything, but remember, every ear is different.

hey i have a 12 gauge earring in my ear at the moment. i've had it for about a month. i got a 10 gauge today but when i try to put it in it wont go in. it kills when i try to get it in. it made my lobe get all hard and hurt real bad but about 5 hours later it was fine. i now have my 12 in and when i move it my ear hurts alot. what should i do??? should i use vaseline to get the 10 in?

okay, i used vaseline and got the 10 gauge in :D. but, this morning it hurt A LOT and so i took it out and put in my 12 gauge. it still hurts alot i hope it will go away in a few hours or days. my mom also said i can't gauge my ear at all so she thinks its an 18. lol. but i had a talk with her and she said i could go to 12. but i wanted more so i bought 10s. she is going to kill me when she sees them lol. ah wel.

That doesn't sound good at all. I had regular gage (not sure what that is) and went to an 8, but instead of a metal taper is used a rubber bracelet thing that i cleaned and put rubbing alcohol on.Later i took it out but I'm going to do it again soon. Anyway my ear didn't bleed or anything, it was just a little sore afterward. I think u should take them out and start over because not they are more susceptible to infection. Then do it again and be sure to clean hem with rubbing alcohol.

i tried to gauge my ear from a regualr pierce to a 10 and it got all swelled and was bleeding kind of a lot. i am going to try a 16 or something will that work out all right?

I went from a 22 to a 12 which hurt alittle (middle hole) and my bottoms are a...16 and cartilage is a 14 I want to get it to a 10 I tried in fact 10 minutes ago but it wouldn't go in so I stuck my 12 in but it didn't go thru and bleed so I just put my 14g barbell back in I'll probably try to put it back in later tonight

My ears are currently the standard size that you get pierced at like wal mart or something...they are a little but bigger than the regular ear ring size bc i would stick like the bigger saftey pins and stuff through them...i want to go from this straight to a 14 how should i go about doing this?

I pierced the cartlage middle hole of my ear with a safeypin. then i put a 22g in it. a few days later i went straight to a 14g. my ears are a lil sore But nothing Big!! I think this is as big as i am gonna go tho..

i got pirced with 10s, and then went to 4s and then to 0s and i kepts working till i got to 1/2, do it slow.. jumping from like 18s to 10 isnt  hard.. but after 10s or 8s.. try moving a bit slower.. let your ear heal a bit.. you dont have to wait to long.. but maybe a week or so.. keep it clean, i started using salt water once i got to 2s everynight for about 5 mins.. it helps the healing process. alot.. if it starts to bleed.. you need to slow down.. let that ear heal before you take the next step, you dont want to tear your ear to much to wear it wont heal if you ever want to take them out.

i think that all gaged ears are very unique.  I just got my ear pierced on the inside.  Does anyone know a website to go to to order earrings.  Everything I go to gives me earrings for everything but an ear.

yea i had regular or whatever that is then to 16 14 10 in my left ear and in my right i went to 16 14 8 which herts like hell i did it my right ear today it took me an hour to put the 8 in ive been putting ice on it which definetly helps!!

Yeah. I just guaged my ear in this order. It took me about a couple of months. 22-14-8-6-4-0. I just guaged it to a zero today and it hurts somethin terrible. I dunno what to do to speed the process up. I usually put in the taper all the through in the morning in a hot shower

hey i did it the getto way i started with a 18g then when that healed i stuck a 20 in with it. anyway this kept going and now i have a 10g bar bell and a 14g tongue ring and 2 18g studs does anyone know what gauge im at im poor so i only want to by something once all i have in now are hand me downs thanks

I pierced my ear and 30 minutes later, with a taper, i was able to get my ear to a 4. My ear was bleeding for a straight hour. from there i went to a 0 to a 00 and now i am at a half inch.  word of advice, do not take Vicodin, hydocodin or any other prescribed painkillers because they will thin your blood. I took 4 Vicodin getting my ear to a half inch and my ear would not stop bleeding.

Hey I say if a company wont hire you cuz of a bigger earring then most people that it wouldn¡¯t be any place of a job to work at any way and oh yeah starbucks maybe not ceos have those but what about guys on west cost customs or the O.C.C. they have millions most ceos don¡¯t get to that level.. anyway for any one gauging ur ears I recommend a pincher cuz not only do they look cool but they start off as a pointed tip and taper there way through to the full size I went from a 14 to a 6 it hurt a lot but not a lot of bleeding and no swelling still got them and there¡¯s no infection

I started at 20g and skipped to 14g about a week and a half ago...my right ear was fine, but my left was a bit more difficult. I just put 12g in both lobes yesterday and plan to just go gradually. I think everyone's bodies will react differently to the stretching and pain that comes along with it. If you're running into problems while skipping, I'd try going back to a 14/16 or so and starting over after it has healed, taking it gradually.

I got my ear pierced baught a 18 guage then a 16 then a i4 i got these comb bristles and stuck 5(they are about the size of 16s)and a earing then i stuck a shoelace through my ear and it is the size of a 10 or 8 guage i am getting a new guage it streches my ear to a 8 guage so yeah and i got no bleeding when i stuck the spacers so yea

i went 14, 10, 6. It wasnt that bad, except the 10 -6 bled a lot. but its fine now. Im trying to find something in my house that i can use for a 4, so i dont waste money im not going to be using for verylong.

I had the average size (18) and went to a 14 then 10 and it started to rip as well...guess I'm not very stretchable. I finally settled on a 12.

bleed, the answer i have for you is go for it if it hurts suck it up until it goes through thats how my 10 went in and im happy about how it went but u could tear your ear and that wouldnt be good just use your own judgement

I just got gauged earrings today, they are a 10. I got them for 3 on each ear...I've never had my ears gauged before, so I'm going from a normal sized earring to a 10G. Is this bad? When i started to gauge my ears i started at a 14, than went to a 12,10,8,6,4. I'm currently at a 4 and stopping at a 2. I found that the 14 was too small. I would suggest buying a combo package of gauges. Like a 14,12,10 pack, which you should be able to pick up for around $20-$25. That way if the 14 is to small you can just put the 12 in.

Ok man , do not listen to half these posts , it is not ok to go from a 14 to an 8. First off a 14 gauge hole is tiny ( not as bad as say a 22 , idiots) but going straight to an 8 will wear out the elastic fibers in your ear. Stretching your ear should only pinch slightly ( and this is when getting pierced at a 10 and stretched straight to an 8) , if you allow a month after piercing, and gauge 2 at a time , as someone stated earlier, 14 12 10 8 etc... you would have between fine. Now your ears are Gross, serves you right , don't be cheap , its like 10 $ a go for pros, and this is in Canada .

i pierced my ear at a 22 back in january, and in feb i went from a 22 to a 18 and then down to a 14 and i just put a 10 in it today. its sore, but no blood...a little bit of dead skin on the back, but still no blood.

i just pierced my top cartilidge with a safety pin about 2 weeks ago and it was a regular 22g earring and then i went from 22 to 18g today and its pretty sore it took me 10 minutes to get in it should i ice it? or keep puttin ear cleaner on it so it doesnt get infected or swollen?

i got my ears pierced a long time ago with just the regular size you get them pierced. but yesterday i started looking at guages and plugs and thought they were really awesome. i wanted to start to stretch mine so i put a belly button ring which is a little bigger then normal earrings into my ears. does anybody no what size belly button rings would be? thanks

I went from a 22 to a 12 in one night, and it hurt a little, but i found that i took them out for one day and the swelling went down and stuff , so the following day i slipped my 12's back in and it fit fine, i have 8s now and my ears are fine.

well, i went to a professional place and had an 18 put in (left ear...i'm not gay)...and wen i got home an hour or 2 later i put 14s in....it was fun...and its been bout 2 months or so and i'mthinking about 12 or should i just go 10?

i had in 10s and i just used a taper to make them into a 6. i'm not sure if it was a bad idea or not or what will happen, but i lubed the taper and it didn't hurt at all. i think skipping one gauge like i didm(i skipped 8) is okay, but probably not 2 or 3.

all i would say is to tak out the esring you prob. tore the earlobe... if so it causes a blowout ! which is somthing you dont want ! i am at a 7/16 and i would advise you not to skip guages it not only hurts its dangerous!!

i gauged my ears over summer for the first time. I went from a 20g to a 10g in ONE DAY!!! I used a bone earring which is not a good idea beacause it can splinter causing permanant scarring. It didn't bleed at first but about a week later it started gushing blood!!!  i put antibiotic cream on it 2 times a day.  three days later my newly gauged ears were no longer bruised, or bleeding...

hi i guaged my ear to a 4 and i have the taper and the ring but i tried to put it on the end of the taper and it wont go on the end of it it only goes half way and,am i suppose to put the ring on the taper then pull it untill the ring goes in? cuz i tried and it HURTS!!!! PLEASE HELP!!!!

after my many years of experience and many many piercing you have probably hit a blood vessel and stretching it so fast and so much is not good, if you  want to stretch your ears you must do it one size at a time,i suggest take it out, let it heal and start over, if you don't you will end up with blow out which is extra skin out the side which is unhealthy and very ugly

hey i really wanted to gauge my ears...my friend david has his gauged to a 00. yesterday he gave me these...claw things i think that's what they are called...but anyways...my ears were pierced like normal and when i got home from school i gauged them with the claws he gave me...they are a six..they hurt a little...and are sorta red...not swollen or anything..my mom didnt really care but my dad is a douche bag. anyone have any "advise" for me? i read above someone said not to put ice on it..then others say you should and it feels good...so help me!

see i dont know if the to fast thing is true for all ppl... i think it depends on u. i mean i pierced my ear... normal 20 gauge earing... went to a 14 same day no needle nothin.. a few days later in went a 10. then about a week or so i put in a 8. then about a month later i went to a 4 n i have never had ne problom with infections nothing like that. i just think most of ppls probloms are not cleaning it properly.

Gauging should NEVER bleed or hurt. It might be a little uncomfortable;e, but if you do it right, you should not have any of the problems you all have been mentioning.

I have 13 ear piercings, all gauged at least a little bit, between 2 and 16. I never skipped a size, and none of them have hurt, been infected, bled, or anything else.

If you are going to do it, do it right.

the blood and swelling probably signifies an infection and the bruising just came from such as shock to your ear. i suggest salt water soaks (boil water and add salt) or investing in a product called H2Ocean... helps a lot. But your ears are fine. I went from a 20 to an 8 to a 6 in the matter of 2 days... but I do stretch my ears often so they are already "loose" if you will!

i also pierced My right ear last week and had a 14 in and Thursday i tried to do to go to a 2 gauge taper and it wouldn't go past a 4 so i put a skewer or whatever and then my friend who has 5/8" gave me a knitting needle and said it was just like a taper so I'm wearing it now its a 4 does anyone know how i can get that 2 in now?

I went from normal to 10 (and being 13 years of age my brother said I was brave. I didn't think so) without lube, without experience, whatever. I just kind of shoved it in. It was red and swollen, but thats actually pretty damn normal at first. But then it healed up like, two days later. But now, trying to put an 8g plug in, its difficult. So I'd recommend to use peroxide as lube, it doesn't work as well as vaseline but it will actually lessen the swelling. I got my 8 in before but it was too soon Lol!
And yes, it does bleed. I mean, no blood for me for a 10, put in an 8 and it was like, bleeding. But, as said above, every ear is different.

i pierced my ear with a safety pin took it out and went right to a 14G tongue ring, took that out a couple days later and put a 12G nail in, took the 12G nail out and went right to a 8G nail, then to a 6G to a 4G to a 2G, got drunk and my 2G came out for a day back to a 4G, then next day back to 2G, its a week later and I'm gauging to 0G...i did all this gauging with in 2 months, the 0G's hurt, but its a pleasure pain

urgh, i pierced my own ears with a safety pin last week. one ear is fine but one seems to have gone septic, its gross. i wanna start gauging 1 ear soon and i thought, well the septic one is screwed up anyway so i'll gauge that one. or will it just kill my ear completely? what is the largest size you can go before it is unable to heal back again? :)

Hey, I just recently gauged my ears to a 10 from an 18. Its gonna bleed. If you're dedicated to your piercing, don't take it out. Soreness is usuaul, your stretching your skin in an unnatural way. MAKE SURE YOU DISINFECT IT!!! You need to do this 2 or three times a day with an unscented bacterial soap. Wash your hands before you touch it. Clean out the crusty stuff, and try to keep your ear clean, and your do just fine.

This forum will help nobody. There are such a wide spread of answers. Different changes work with different people. When going up in size it shouldn't bleed. It could cause you ear to blow-out and that almost always is has to be surgically repaired to look normal again. Take your time.

you should have gone down gradually, it is way safer..i went down gradually from a 10g to 2g in just 2 months..you have to let it heal.  I suggest when you are ready to gauge them tug on the piercing a little..sort of stretches out the hole...don't tug it to a point where it hurts though..ya know what i mean.  0g is my goal...almost there..and ice feels great on the newly gauged ear...shrinks the swelling...if there's swelling.

i had my ears pierced normally for a long time....then decided to put in a giant safety pin....then a nail...but i have no idea what gauge my ear is, because it is a nail....so how do i determine size gauge to buy?  another thing, one ear stretches fine and the other takes longer....bothersome but regular I'm sure...(?)

I have an important question. I have a track meet TOMORROW and i just got my ears double peirced 3 weeks ago. My coach said it would be fine having them, and now he changed it and say i can not. At hot topic they sell 14 and 16 gauges, in clear earrings, i was wondering what the size of fresh peirced earrings was, and how bad it hurts(i have a low pain tolerancy) and i dont even really want gauges. do you think i should just leave my earrings out for like three hours, or get the gauges, im wondering if it will affect my first hole since they are so close, and i dont want them different sized

okay look ill make this really simple all ears are different... you will have to do it different according to your ear but this is the way me and all my friends have gaugued with minimal tearing and brusing...go from stud to a ten, ten to a six, then but and extra six in each ear(if you are going to do this u better be prepared for ALOT of pain but trust me it will work, then go to 0, then to 00, then to 1/2, then to 5/8 (which I'm at now) 5/8 ripped my friends but not mine... I'm at 5/8 now and I'm pretty happy with this gauge its nice and big and not to extreme but my friends are at 1inch and 1inch and 1/8 and they recommend that once u get to double zero u start skipping sixteenths, it will hurt but once your that big you no longer need to go up a sixteenth of a gauge it's pointless, waste time, and money..... please rank this gaugeing guide if u liked it

and within 2 days, stretched them to a 16, and within the next week moved through a 8 and a 4 and Now I am almost at zero and this is all within a span of about 3 weeks.
It all depends on your body type and your pain tolerance :D

Guys, i see a whole bunch of people skipping numerous sizes at a time. Skipping 1 is fine, i went from 14 to 10, skipping 12, but if you skip more than that or go too quickly you can develop ugly scar tissue that will prevent any more stretching.

most of all, IF IT BLEEDS MORE THAN A DROP, STOP. wait awhile. disinfect your ear. after soaking it in warm water (ie a shower) massage your ear lobe and lube the gauge with soap like dial, and slowing insert the piercing

and tapers are great options too.

Hey...erm i am tryin to get the top of my ear pierced but dont really wanna pay 45 bucks for it so im thinkin bout doin it myself. . is it okay to pierce right to like a 12-14 gauge or should i start small...it is even okay at all to go that big at the top of your ears??? and does it hurt really bad? ive pierced my ears once already and it was a pain in my ass cuz i used a sewing needle (lol) and that was my 3rd hole up in my right ear but i did that like 2 1/2 weeks ago and i still can barely sleep on it. . ah well its getting better by the night so im gana leave it in.

amelia, thats definitly not to big of a jump. I went straight to an eight from 22.

And I think you definity ripped your ear. Clean it as much as you can to avoid infection. Swelling is normal, and the bleeding is definitly if you use a plug to stretch, or shove it all at once. But I'm not sure about the bruising. If its still swollen about a week from now, get it checked by a doctor.

And Starbuck, whats your point? Thats why they invented flesh coloured plugs...

if you use straw and stuff you can get you ears stretched just slowly insert more straw into the center of the original it actually works

er, i went from normal earring size, and put a 2mm taper in ,which is small as ----, and i took it out last night to stretch it up to a 6 and i've never seen bood like it, i was dripping down my neck, but yeah i intend to stretch it to a 6 tonight even though i only started two days ago.

hey i got my ear pierced about week and a half ago and it's already pretty healed but i know it's not all the way...i have a 12 in right now, but i want to go strait to an 8 do you think i should wait or go ahead and do it?  i dont know if it's a bad idea not to wait until it's completely healed...i'll say it's 3/4 the way healed it feels

If you are going to pierce or stretch, you should always go to a professional piercer. Using sub-standard materials or technique can cause permanent damage. I have many, many piercings, some self pierced and some professionally pierced. The ones that I did myself I have had problems with, the professional ones I have not.

I had my ear stretched from 22 (normal earring size) to an 8 gauge by a professional with lube and tapers. It felt tight, almost like a pinch, but no blood, no bruising, no problems.

You should go see a professional and see if they can salvage the piercing.

umm i went from a lil bigger than a safety pin to a 14 gauge it hurts but it will oviously hurt.. ii say use hot water because it makes the hole more tender and easier to stretch then if yu use ice it will freeze it tight and will just cause ripping.. ii only got mine yesterday and ii used vasline to help it go in faster an it working but its a slow proscess and ii think it way cool :P

i got my ears pierced when i was 6 months old,and just the other week @the mall i got 12gs and it hurt SOME,but it wasnt like unbearable.i want to get to 8gs,but thats the biggest im getting.my friend said NOT to skip ANY,b/c it will hurt like helllll,and it totally worth waiting.

Yeah deff go to a piercer if you are thinking about going to larger sizes than a 00g. Most of you people have gone up too far too fast. Especially if you are doing them all by yourself without tapers or anything. I got my pierced at 8's. After 3 weeks I had 6's put in and they slide right in. 2 1/2's later I had my 4's put in and they slide right in. Then 2 1/2's after that I had my 2's put in by myself a lil too fast though I honestly probably should of waited 2 months. For people worried about not closing up. I would recommend go to a piercer and taking it very very very slowly.Trust me. I myself am going up to a inch or beyond that. I figure I'm not concerned about getting a high roller job. I hope that I can even get a job that accepts me for who I am. I have given this thought many years before I started stretching and I'm positive this is what I want.

I got my ear peirced with a 10g, 2 days l8r i went to an 8, then a week or so later i got a 6, and now i'mup to a 4. I have no scars or tearage of my ear but if your trying to go big fast, use lots of alcahol for your lubricant and germ killer. happy peircing:)

Help I need some advice.

Okay well a 2 nights ago I gauged my ears.
I went from having just a regular ear piercing to last night I found out an 8g.
I used the spike things. I am so new at this and I don't know what they are called..

I want to have them but my ears swelled up so big and they are red and warm. I also have alittle puss and some blood that was not there the day I gauged them. I was kind of worried because the side of my neck hurt but I figured that it maybe because of the way I was sleeping. After reading something on the internet saying if you have a stiff neck or your glands are swollen go to the doctors. Well I pankicked and removed them immediately.
Like I said I do want them but do I just let them close and then start with a smaller gauge or what?????
Is there some remedy anyone has that could help my issue. I have been using alcohol and anti-bacterial germicidal topical piercing cleanser.
Is there something else.
This newby needs some good advice.
I appreciate it.

Thats not a good choice same reason you cant use it for sex. It's not water soluable, meaning it will just sit there and make it easier for bacteria to get caught and such.

does anyone know anything about mushroom ear? i heard it from a lady that works at a tattoo shop in town here, i put in a 6 without any lub or nothin and she yelled at me and said i could get mushroom ear, i said i knew what it was but i really dont.  so, do any of you know? btw, it kills...

hey for all you people who are having trouble getting the bigger gauges in its a very simple process.  all you have to do is pretty much whatever i was doing like during class or whatever i would pull on my lobes downward gentaly to help the streching process.  i was able to go from a 14 to 12 to 10 to 8 in a matter of about a week or so.  this way you dont really need lube or anything but dont try to go too big too fast getting piercings infected sucks!!!!!

I don't think it's going to matter further in life, if you gage your ears. Because the whole eventually does go back to normal size. I've gone from a 14 to a 10, and back to normal.

well i'm number 23 in my class out of 900 kids but i still love things of this nature. i do have high goals. I am planning on stretching mine to an 8 very soon so i am looking into tapering it :]

I just went from a 4 to a 0 and it was pretty easy. it didnt bleed at all and i used a taper. i think the woman gave me a double zero taper by accident because i put the plug in about an hour later and it was smaller. it bled a tiny bit and i noticed my hole was ripped slightly. is that bad? it doesnt hurt bad at all.

I have gone from a standard piercing size to a 1/2". All i can say is if your not good with pain go slow, and the more your ears heal before you go bigger, the easier it will be. Also the lube works great. As far as alcohol goes, DONT USE IT!! Its good for cleaning but it slows the healing process. I would use cleaners you can buy at a piercing place or online.

I have never peirced my ears before, im going on sunday to get them punched at 10, and i want to put a 10 spacer in it...

i went from 14 to 8 as well and mine tore a little so thats where your bleeding and bruising is coming from
i would try gauging back down a size to 16, let it heal, then gauge up
i gauges back down to a 16 for 2 weeks then gauged up and now i am at 00 so just take it easy if u are making that big of a jump
oh and dont try skipping a size on that ear again
its a bad idea because it will retear and u will have to go back down to a smaller size and wait and do it all over again

i just finely went to a 12g and it didn't hurt at all it slid right in from a 14g i went from a normal to 14 my advice is to take it slow gage it then let it heal then do it again and take it only 1g at a time

i had a gauge that was 0 and want it to go back to possibly a 6? if i leave it out long enough will it shrink enough to be a 6 again? i haven't had it a 0 that long.

i started out at a 20g and then like i went to a 10g  3 weeks ago then to a 8,6,4, and now i am at a 2g.  this weekend i'mgoing to get a 0g.  but yea when i put in my 10g it kinda hurt cause i didnt lube it up at all.  haha.  i didnt lube up any of my gauges.  its probably a good idea to lube it up.  the swelling will go down in a couple of days

i started with a regular piercing, then went to a 12 , then to a 10, then i used one of those things thats goes from 2 to a 6, and now i have a 6, its not good to skip more then 1 size, my advice is to just go one step at a time , but if u wanna skip, dont go more then 1 size, and it all depends on the earing u use to. and sticking stuff like safety pins and thick needles help, when u stretch it out , and put neosporn on it to , it ask as a lube, and it kills germs, also do it in the shower, the hot water will losin the nerves,ask as a lube, and help u relax

The safest painless and easiest way to gauge up is to pierce small like a 14 or a 16 and then buy a taper set and go like 14 12 10 8 6 and so on. If you taper every two weeks and slow your ears will be fine in the long run specialy if you go into the bigger sizes like 00 and half inch.

I went from a standard earring to 2 gauge's in a little over a months time. I started out with a 14 gauge that I got at walmart, then I got some ceramic plugs. I suggest those if you're starting out small. I went from 14 to 10g's, and it wasn't bad but if you decide to stretch your ear, a couple days before start tugging on the earring already in, it helps the bigger size go in easier. 10g to 8g didnt hurt at all, it was really easy to get in. Then I went from a 8 to a 4, and I did it in the shower and used a taper. My right ear was always the first to get gauged bigger, and I usually learned from my mistakes (like hitting the 4g in my ear, and having it swell real big)... so my left ear always turned out a little better. The hardest thing was getting a 4g to a 2, but if you just suck it up and commit to it, the real pain only lasts a day.

And a word to the wise, clean it every day for the first week or so you go up a size. Dried blood and crusty stuff shouldn't stay in your ear, it'll get infected. If you just use antibacterial soap and water, you should be fine.

Just remember that pounding feeling in your ear won't last forever

i dont know what gauge i have what is the standard size because i got my ears peirced last week and i havent changed people tell me i have an 18 but some people tell me i have a 20 so i dont know what to but next

Hey bleeding, swelling and having puss come from it is normal. Trust me I'm at a 2 gage right now....i know all about it lol the pain sucks but it'll subside after a while...my advice is to just use alchahol or if you have special ear cleaning liquid use it...it will be just fine if you clean it =)

My ears are 14 at the moment but I'm going to (steadily) move up to an 8, going 12, 10 then 8 gradually. From what I've heard its not wise to make a large jump between sizes as it can lead to scarring and infection.
Also, I'm 19 and I'm a manager in corporate at a bank, and I can understand what Starbuck is saying. Its going to be extremely difficult to get a good career if you have massive stretches, so it is always best to think ahead.

Obviously I'm not against stretching as I'm doing it myself, but I'm not going to go any larger than 8 as it could affect how much further my career goes. When I first started working at the bank I even got complaints from customers because I wore black eyeshadow and they found it agressive!

That was just a little nugget of advice from me :)

Hey i pirced my ears with a saftey pin about a year ago and i would just put random stuf in them. i could fit a toothpick in them so yesterday i put 8's in and my left ear bled a little but and is a little sore....am i eff'd did i tear anything ir should i just suck it up?

Ok, this goes for bleedforsanity69 and anyone else. im currently at an 8g, and dont plan on anything bigger anytime soon. if you want to gauge your ears bigger, i recommend you do it with stretch kits, like 12,10,8 packs of 'stretchers.' eh, the technical term escapes me now, but you know what im talking about. Hot Topic sells these if you want to do it yourself. use a lubricant, neosporin works well, and give it around a week or two between sizes if you want to be really safe and not have any scarring. also, you could go to the local piercing shop and ask them questions, they can gauge them there for around 5-10 bucks.

And what i was wonder is, i hear people talking about using lube for it and its easier and helps a lot. Can any one explain to me how u use the lube on Ur ears and what kind of lube to get and just explain it to me?

i started at a 14 gauge and then i stuck in an 8..i went to 6, then i went to a 2 and then i went to a 00 to 1 inch...but be very careful it does hurt..i suggest taking some advil or tylenol 1 hour before it does help the swelling if you have to skip a bunch of gauges....i didnt know this worked until i was all done gauging so i took the pain...lol

hmm...its cool...a few weeks ago i went from a 1/2 to a 5/8 and that just healed up from bleeding after 3 weeks....but now im up to 7/8 in one ear and 3/4 in the other and theyre nice and healed....so....dont worry bout bleeding...its not recommended to go that fast but most ppl do neway...its a lot cheaper if u use crap round the house to...like marker caps or stuff like that....

you deffinately tore your ear if it's bruised and bleeding. i went from a regular earring size hole to a 10..then a 6..and now i'm at a 4. i did that in 3 weeks tops. but then again, i've had my ears pierced for the past 14 years.

so i haven't yet gotten gages but i am hopefully getting some in like a month or two, but see i have to holes, so how small should i go!?

i wanna get them in both holes.

I went from a reg peircing to 2 14's in the same hole then to 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, then I just put my 0's in and they've been in for about two or three days and my right just started swelling today, i've iced it a little, and cleaned it a few times, anything else i should do?

my friend just did my ears from a 21 to a 6. no, it didn't hurt but its swelling a little. the ice does help...trust me...lol.i have a tapper and it helps if i twist it ofen too.

right now ive got a 2 and when i starrted i went from 16 to 12 to 6 all in one week it was invigorating and the best feeling ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! now i'mhappy with my 2 but intend to go bigger soon.....

ok welll i put in a zero after having a 2 in for a while and the same thing happpen but alll you need to do is put warm salt watter on your ear and the infection shoud clear up pretty fast

well i went from a thumb tack (getto lol) to a 16 then a 10 in 2 months one ear kinda bled cause i dident rotate the loop and the flesh attached to the loop but thats about it. i recomend peroxide it helped me

I went from standard 14 stud waited for about 4 weeks and went to a 12. It sucked! and hurt for days but i lubricated it well and cleaned it every other day and it was fine, then i went to 10,6,4 and I've been on a 4 for about a year now. I want to go to at least a 2 if not a 0. Its not hard it hurts like "Hello" but if you go slow and take it easy with your ear you'll be fine

i went from a 22 to a 10, then 8 then 6 then 2 then 0's. about 2 hours ago i put 10's in my second hole wich were 22's. never bleed. never ripped. didnt use ice or asprin or lube or nothin...

I started with a 16g and went down to 14g 12g and now 10g and my ear really hurts and its swollen and sometimes bleeds alittle...could it be infected?

hey i started out with 18 then went to 16 then i went from a 14 down to a 10g. it hurt but it took a while. looks kool but i probly wouldnt go form like a 14 to a 8 tho. =]

im just now gauging my ears.
my boyfriend has them and i love them so i decided to try it...
i started from a 18 and went to a 16, its been a week now and this weekend im gonna put in some 14s... dont take the fast way out. i wouldnt jump sizes, im not gonna risk my ear ripping cause im not supposed to be gauging my ears. just take it slow and you should have any problems with pain.
remeber its not a race.

Hey, an idea for lube.....triple antibiotic (aka Neosporin).  It's greasy and has medicine to reduce and eliminate infection.

I think its important to take it slowly. Cutting corners when it comes to this kind of thing is stupid.  I just went from a 14 to a 12 today and it wasn't a huge jump but I'm taking my time with it. Going from a 14 to an 8 is insaneeeeee, you're just asking for trouble by doing stupid crap like that.  I had my ears pierced for maybe 8 years and then decided to gauge them.. I started off with the 14 with a little soreness.

i jumped from a 12 to an 8 then to a 6 to a 2 and my ears are fine but they bled once i got to a 2 your ear is fine just make sure you clean it and if it gets infected put somthing on it.

hey bleed for sanity, just go get some 14 gauge tapers, and some water based lube( like ky jelly) then take a hot wash rag and massage your ear. then take the lube and rub it on the taper and your piercing. then take the taper and push it through slowly, it should only hurt a little bit, but thats only because you're stretching up a couple sizes. after you get the taper in put the plug up to the end of the taper and push the plug right through when your taking you r taper out. just do this every single time you stretch up, it actually shouldnt hurt at all if your only stretching up one size. hope this helps you out. :)

ok well i started at 12 and im going to 10 in 2 weeks it dosnt really matter no matter what its gonna hurt just dont past a double zero because it wont grow back. if you do go that far then have fun sewing it backk... i was watching a television show and it looks siick

basically, take it slower. keep one size in for a couple days and then change when your ear is used to it and doesnt hurt anymore. its called stretching not ripping.

i went from standard earring to a 14, to a 10, to an 8, no pain. 6s are hurting right now. im gonna have them in for a while before i go to a 4.

I went 16 to 8 it bled a little. It got infected but I left it and cleaned it everyday and it was totally fine after a week. Now I'm going bigger.

well i had a 2g...and i left them for a month without stretching...so yesterday i got ALOT of straws and black electric tape...i got hydrogen peroxide.and triple antibiotic ointment...instead of using vaseline or something else the ointment helps my gauge heal faster...well i started with a toothpick and i cut out pieces of straw to go over the toothpick..and then put black electric tape..even though i hadd plugs..(size 0)..they wouldn't go in..so i kept on adding black electric tape and straws (mostly black electric tape though)..and it came out BIG...i put the ointment on it so it can slide in easily..and before i cleaned my ears ALOT with hydrogen peroxide..and forced the home-ade plug in...i think its better making your own plugs..and then buying some nice ones so you won't waste alot of money ...thats what i do..i skipped about four or five sizes by doing this..its alot less pain ful...(well to me) and..i save alot of money :D...wel..i'm bored..so if you want to talk or have any questions....emial me at thekims53@aol.com :D

I had regular peircings (20) and i went from that to a 14 then an 8 then down to a 00 in less than 2 months it didn't bleed or anything now i have 7/16 in now =]]

Well I just have my ears pierced normally at claires or something.  But I just want like an 18 gauge, and then just stop, that's as thick as I want it.  Is it alright to do that?  Like I mean no one's stopping me, but I don't want to really stretch my wholes that far, I just want a circular barbell.  And I've looked around and they don't sell them without gauges.

listen people are different i went from an 18 to a 4 in one ear and it bleed like a mother then i did the other ear and it didnt bleed just make sure it dosent get infected and youll be fine

you guys are ridiculous.
not to mention your going to have a crap load of scar tissue.
NEVER skip gauges.
plus, you should give your ear AT LEAST a one- two week healing period after stretching.
not to mention salt soaks, oil massages.
you all have no clue what you're doing.

you guys are all stupid you are only suppose to do one size a month mine are at 9/16 and they are fine because they never ripped and if you rip you ears or have any bleeding at all they probably wont grow back and if your ears get infected you could lose the bottom of your ear lobe

Honey, going from a 14 to an 8 is quite a big jump. You should be taking it very slowly. And going one size at a time. Wait at least 2-4 weeks before your next stretch. It should always be like that. And if it's bleeding, then that means you had a blowout. Which is NOT good. You should actually downsize. That's really bad for your ear, and if you don't take  care of your stretched lobes correctly, if could go as far as having to have a medical surgery to get your lobe amputated. Stretching isn't just a fun game thing. You've gotta be serious about it. It took me almost 5 months to get where I am now. I'm at 7/16", otherwise known as 00.

well that's a bit big,
but those sizes aren't really that big so i'd say you're okay,
i went from a regular pearced ear straight to ten and from 8 to 4,
i'm alright,
i think you just tore your skin a little,
try to clean it off in the shower,
the heat helps a little and it's better for the pain in my opinion.
You shouldn't feel anything after about a 5 to 8 days really.
just don't mess around w/ it too much.

i went from a 18 to a 14 to an 8 all in 2 days and then 4 days later i went to a 6 and then to a 2 it hurt but not that bad oh yeah i had it pierced for at least 6 months but from a 2 to a 0 hurts

dude i just percied from 4 to 0 and it swelled up biggg and blood and ooze was coming out but keep cleaning it (dont take it out) and keep turning it every so often do not take asprin and you should be fine after about a week. Good Luck

I pierced my ears at a 10 gauge.  I went from there to an 8 to a 6 to a 4 to a 2 to 0 and then 00.  Waited exactly one week in between each stretch.  Wasn't too bad at all.  Once you get to like 6 or 4, it seems like they stretch easier.

*Starbuck* is ignorant if he/she thinks that what a person looks like on the outside really determines how succesful you are in life.....and neosporin is a good lubericant and an antiseptic.(never use alchohal to clean your ear after you've stretched it,use neosporin.)

I went from normal piercings to 14,12,10...tried a 6 but wuldn'tfit so 8,6,4,...i can't skip sizes but some people can go from 18 to 2 like no problem. oh...and gaging ur ears is easy, go to spencer'sor hot topic and ask 4 help there. peace nukkaz!

I waited 2 weeks after getting my ears pierced at the mall, then used a taper to go to a 12, then 10, then today just went to an 8. Overall I waited a little less than a week to change gauges, which was probably a bad idea. There was a little bleeding occasionally, and a little pain, but both were minor. So far now blowouts or keloid bumps, so I'm happy with it.

And yes, I'm going bigger.

uhmm, i recently wanted to gauge my ears and the guy [who is my friend] at the store said to just start at a 10; annnd obviously THAT didnt work. should i buy 14 and start out with that? because i kinda have no idea what im doing.

in my *cartilage* i went from a 12ga to an 8 ga because i was told my current piercing was at 10 ga but was only 12ga. it didn't hurt, but the back did take a whiel to heal because i had an eyelit in, and it got pushed all the way through my ear at one point. so the sizes do not matter. you most likey popped a blood vessel or ripped the skin. *ok people. the sizes do not matter how fast you go, except if you rip the skin.*

i recently gauged my ears. i started from a 22 to a 14 and then to a 10. Its a easy process all you have to do is just put vaseline on the gauge and on the ear (it works best when your taking a hot shower), the gauge will easily sly through with no problem. My ears were sore after but the next day it was back to normal

just to let you all know i went from a 10 to a 00 in one stretch well then i kept going all the way up to 3/4 of an inch and from me skipping those gauge sizes my ear won't heal all the way only to like a 0 so i recommend not skipping any sizes at all

hey guys when i first got my ear pierced i did not even no about gauging but as soon as i found out about it, i went from standard 20 to a 16 to 14, to 12, to 8, im at a six now and i am trying to skip to a 2 because i bout a 2 and 0 pack that comes with the plugs ansd taper from hottopic any suggestions about going from a 6 to a 2? thanks

hey me and my but went from a safety pen to a 12 inch all in the matter of 3 days.. roxy u just need to suck it up and dont be a puzze and just shove em throgh i mean if it bruises just take it out and try again

you def. ripped the lobe. its not that hard to do and its not uncommon.  give it time. don't ice it. that would be the worst decision. ice would contract the skin and if the ring were to wiggle it could tear more skin. petroleum jelly is my best friend when it comes to gauging. i took it slow at first and ended up at a 10g. from that i skipped to a 0, then to a 1/2. from there on out. keeeeep it slow. i just tore my left side. its not as painful and heals easy. time. time. time. is the answer

I currently  have my ears at 20g and I bought some earrings that are 14g.. when I tried to stick them in it hurt really bad and started bleeding.  I don't have a taper.. but, I didn't think I would need one from 20 to 14... How should I get it in?
