97 Neon cooling fan won't come on.I replaced the temp.sensor switch, and checked fan by hooking it directly to power and fan motor is good.there is not a relay  for the rad fan. book says it's in the PCM.Does this mean my PCM is bad, or since engine overheated several times before sensor was replaced, does the pcm need reset or something?also fuses are good.wires look ok.

Hey Jim , it does have a relay for the fans , but not in the power distribution center , as we would like , but if you get under the car look on the drivers side fender just behind the bumper area and under the battery area you will see a 4 wired connector going to a small flat looking device with 2 screws mounting it to the fender , there is your 70$ relay. if you jump the tan and green wire you should get fan action. hope this helps.

I just bought a '97 Neon. My fans wouldn't work either. I saw that 4 wire connector but thought it was something else, it doesn't look anything like a relay. I jumped the wires and sure enough, both fans kicked on. Once again the internet has proven to be my most valuable tool. Thanks Scantech. You saved me alot of time and headaches trying to track this problem down.

Now for my question. I did a quick search on the net for "neon fan relay". Apparently there has been some problems with them. Has Mopar fixed the problem or should I obtain a generic fan relay and wire it to work? I would hate to waste $70 on something that's just going to fail again......Thanks in advance.

as Far as i know there is a simple way to check for codes which will tell you what is wrong with the elctrical...most of the time.
look in the net under "neon codes"  or some relevant search. youll find out that there are about 50 or so codes that your car will tell you if you put the key in the ignition turn it to accessories and back to off 5 times so that at the end (by the 5th time) the key is in the accessories position soon after that you'll begin to see the check engine light flicker on and off ....these flashes are the codes you'll have to get the meaning of each code through he net as i did but it was quite helpful for me. let me know how it goes m.

In Canada the relay was a safety recall and is replaced free of charge.I assume it's the same in the US.
