I am replacing a 3-way light switch and am unable to wire it to work correctly.  Is there a trick?  There is a black, white and green wire for each switch.

YOU KNOW, THIS REALLY DEPENDS ON HOW THE WIRING WAS DONE.  IF YOU HAVE A 3-WAY SW, THERE HAS TO BE AT LEAST ONE MORE 3-WAY SW THAT CONTROLS THE LIGHT.  FOR EXAMPLE:
TO CONTROL ONE LIGHT FROM 2 DIFFERENT LOCATIONS YOU NEED 2 3-WAY SWITCHES.  SOURCE TO THE FIRST 3-WAY SWITCH, FROM THE FIRST 3-WAY SWITCH TO THE SECOND 3-WAY SWITCH WITH  FOUR WIRES (I.E., 14-3 AWG WITH A GROUNDING WIRE), TWO OF WHICH WILL SERVE AS TRAVELERS, THEN FROM THE SECOND 3-WAY SWITCH TO THE LOAD (LIGHT).  REMEMBER THAT YOU CAN ONLY SWITCH YOUR HOT CONDUCTOR.  REMEMBER THAT YOU HAVE TO HAVE A SET OF TRAVELERS FROM ONE 3-WAY SWITCH TO THE SECOND.  REMEMBER, DO NOT SWITCH YOUR NEUTRAL, JUST CONNECT THEM TOGETHER TO COMPLETE THE CIRCUIT.  THIS CAN BE DIFFICULT TO EXPLAIN, BUT THERE ARE MANY SITES THAT EXPLAIN OR "SHOW" THIS PROCESS.

I have found that throughout the years many people have had the pleasure of re-wiring their own kitchens. But in doing this they must realize that all countertop plug(s) within 3' of the sink have to be gfci protected(load side only being used for additional receptacles on the same curcuit branch). As well many do-it-yourselfer's have changed many 3-wire (14-3, 12-3) receptacles on their kitchen countertop's. In doing this they have forgoten nor have ever known that a little breakaway tab in between the two hot terminal screws has to be disconnected. In failing to do this the plug will be double fed, thus causing the breaker, or fuse, to blow or trip.
