I'm 43 yrs old.  Fairly fit but trying to figure out how to breath properly so I can go further when I jog with my pup.  Inhale through the nose, exhale out the mouth?  Do I have it backwards?  How do I regulate my breathing so I can increase my jogging distance?  I'm currently at 3 1/2 miles two or three times a week.

The trick is to PACE your breathing - try to keep it steady and even. You got it right - IN through the NOSE, and OUT through the MOUTH.  I often spend the majority of my run concentrating on my breathing and keeping it paced, do not revert to "heavy" breathing (short spurts)....
hope this helps.
