Hi everybody When opening the unix console i amused to see...

Hi everybody
When opening the unix console i amused to see on top of it :the working directory for example: xlh989: /home/col
but, i don't know why, somebody worked on my PC and now I see only this signs:# or $  
depending on the user, and so i can't change directory easily and can't see the name of the working dierctory.
Can anybody help me, please, to resolve this problem.
