ghetto 1. Cheap, bad, inferior, half-assed. 2. An imitation. ghetto-fabulous: Ghetto fashion taken to a whole new level. Ghetto - noun - that which is not highly cultured or regarded is said to be ghetto. Anything not pop culture can also be said as ghetto. This is not necessarily an insult, but is most often miscontrued as one. 1. (n.) an impoverished, neglected, or otherwise disadvantaged residential area of a city, usually troubled by a disproportionately large amount of crime 2. (adj.) urban; of or relating to (inner) city life 3. (adj.) poor; of or relating to the poor life 4. A ghetto is an area where people from a specific racial or ethnic background or united in a given culture or religion live as a group, voluntarily or involuntarily, in milder or stricter seclusion. The word historically referred specifically to the Venetian Ghetto in Venice, Italy, where Jews were required to live; it derives from the Venetian gheto (slag from Latin GLĬTTU[M] cfr. Italian ghetto (slag)), and referred to the area of the Cannaregio sestiere, the site selected for the Ghetto Nuovo where a foundry cooled the slag (campo gheto). It was later applied to neighborhoods in other cities where Jews were required to live. The corresponding German term was Judengasse; in Moroccan Arabic ghettos were called mellah. The term now commonly labels any poverty-stricken urban area, though the news media created new terms like rural ghetto to describe mobile home parks, farm labor housing tracts and Indian reservations to indicate the poorest areas in the U.S. aren't inside a major city. In the United States, urban neighborhoods where Hispanic immigrants settled in the late 20th century barrios are said comparable to ghettos, because most immigrants form a culturally isolated enclave and may choose to remain there or associate with their own group. "Ghetto" is also used figuratively to indicate geographic areas with a concentration of any type of person, with or without poverty (e.g. gay ghetto) or for non-geographic categories (e.g. "sci fi ghetto" [1]). The term is also used to describe an item or an action as cheap or flimsy. some consider this misappropriation of language offensive[2]. Some people in the U.S. and Europe strongly dislike the term ghetto, believing to have racist, elitist and culturally insensitive overtones, and the mention of such a word to describe a working-class ethnic community is considered a generalization or an insult. Many social workers and community leaders suggest alternative words to describe these areas like Inner city and economically disadvantaged areas.

Ghetto to mean hard times people had more love, they live together, work together, and praise the lord together. We survive together. One has made ghetto a bad name. "Ghetto" actually originated from the poor Jewish in war times. The Jews were being persecuted for their beliefs, and were all thrown into a non-livable environment where they had to forge a living. (the Warsaw ghetto) This was referred to as the "ghetto". "Ghetto" now-days is referred to as something being cheap, or poor of quality. Or an area where many people of the same race or background live separately from the rest of the community, often crowded with poor conditions.

My people..... Ghetto - A section of a city occupied by a minority or majority group who live there especially because of social, economic, or legal pressure. Ghetto is not bad at all. We all live in a ghetto. Just because the meaning uses the word minority or majority this doesn't mean exactly races, cultures, but other characteristics the describes people or groups of people. ghetto can be many thing it can be a compliment or an insult! 1-the word ghetto is slang some people use it in terms of a compliment like saying "that outfit is ghetto" which in this case is tight or cool or hip! 2-this word can also be a insult. like saying "those shoes are ghetto" which in the case is stupid or ugly! 3-now ghetto fabulous is a whole other meaning. ghetto fabulous is fabulous in a gangster type way! so there can be many meanings for the word ghetto!!
