UNFORTUNATELY.......i also have a Bank of the United States 'note' due in 17 months, for $1,000.00 signed by J.(?) Dunlaff pres.
#8894 Dated Dec. 15, 1840, with three portraits on both the left and right far edges of the note. It also is in EF (unbelievbley Fine) condition.

My note is for $10,000. It is not blank on the back, it has Lincocin in a script writing six times across in six rows. Also, I only have 2 president's faces on each side, not 3. Any suggestions?

Thank you,

I have a thousand dollar bank note with the number 8894 with nothing on the back of the note.  I have three important figures on the left and right, such as Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson.  It's a promisary note to pay J.W. Fairman? then states New York and Philadelphia and is dated December 15th, 1840.  It has two signatures although I cannot read it very well.  One is the listed as the president.

I just acquired the same thing.  Does not say copy but is exactly what rose describes.  Does anyone know where this came from?  I was told that it possibly came from a gift shop at some reconstructed 17th century town in the 1970's.  Could this be possible.  Please email me at joecall75@yahoo.com if you have any input.

It has a picute of Washington in the lower left corner and a picture of (maybe Hamilton?) on the lower right corner. It is dated Dec. 25, 1840 and has a No. 711 on the right and left top. December 15, 1840 and has the serial number "8894." Can you tell me what it is worth now and where I can cash it in?
This currency note from the Bank of the United States is something that we have seen in the past. Our office receives many inquiries concerning the authenticity of these notes.

It is important to note, first, that the Treasury Department did not issue notes intended for circulation as currency until 1862. This being the case, these notes are not obligations of the United States Government. brief history

It is likely, though, that the note is part of a series of antiqued reproductions issued in various denominations and forms for use in advertising campaigns. The most popular of these bear the serial number 8894. These notes are so widespread that they were the subject of an August 5, 1970, article in the monthly numismatic publication, COIN WORLD

found the answer for every one I own five of them my self my father had them for at least 27 years. To see for your self I found it in bureau of engraving and printing.
