Beagles are dogs with lots of energy and love to follow a scent.  Like any other breed every dog is different.  With  consistent training any dog can be trained.  If you are not sure of your training abilities, I would seek assistance from a professional trainer.

I recently got a beagle puppy. She is 5 months now, and I taught her to lay down and sit. It is not very hard to train them, but you MUST be very consistent with your training. Get a beagle! They are fun, and adorable, and great for your family. :)

Beagles are NOT hard to train. They relate to humans on a higher level than most dogs and are seriously bonded to the pack family. Dominance is the key. You must be assertively loving. They love to cuddle and find security in being close. Beagles are also very expressive vocally. Be prepared for long converations. Do not mistake their "nose" for following a scent as disobedience. It's what they do. They are also one of the most kid friendly dogs on the planet. They love the "routine" and alert everyone if anything is "different". Simple pleasures are the best for them and, of course, a nice comfy couch.

YES!!!! They are EXTREMELY HARD to train!! They are not good apartment dogs.. they NEED space to run around. They sniff everything, they are hyper, they howl, and shed.
We bought one from a pet store after reading alot of books on them and the books really dont tell you how HARD they are to train. Potty training is THE WORST! Our dog is 10 months old and still hasnt gotten house broken correctly. THey are a very stubborn bread. It's not that she cant be housetrained, she just doesnt want to, she thinks she knows a better idea! She's a sweet dog. Just be prepared for alot of work if you get one.

My beagles have been trained even if they are on a scent to come when they hear someone whistle.  They were trained to do this by keeping treats in pocket.  Now they come whenever they hear a whistle no matter how far in the woods they are.
