I have an o2 which my friend gave me and the problem is that he lost his Irix 6.5 cd and forgot his root password.
I am totally new to all this and I wanted to use the o2 as a webserver and also a rendering machine(renderfarm).
o2 spec:
175MHz MIPS R10000(IP32) w/ MIPS R10010 FPU
256MB

so here are my questions

1. Can I change the root without having the install CDs or mounting the HDD to a different system? I did read that I can mount the o2 HDD to a linux box and change the password and all but I dont have a linux box + I dont know how Irix works. I want to change the root passwd so that I can play around with Irix and learn.

2. Once question 1 is sorted can I use the o2 as a webserver?

3. Once I've got everything sorted :) can I use the o2 as a renderFarm? Exact idea is that, I have a PC running Maya and I would like to use the o2 for rendering only and the PC for modelling, animation etc.

4. Can I install Linux on my o2 R10000? I did do a lot of searches on the net and some say I can and some dont. Plus a lot of the threads I've read are out of date.(over 2 years old).

Are there other things I can do with the o2 besides graphics work?

thanks for all the help.
cheers
