whats the main industry

The main industry of Key West is tourism. But recently, their seems to be a shift. Real estate in it's many forms (sales, construction, speculation) is fast becoming big business here. The effects are devestating to the local working population, as affordable housing is becoming scarcer. In the end, I believe that the future of Key West is to become less of a tourist destination, and more of a ridiculously rich, snobird community. The tourist economy, in its present size, needs thousands of workers. If the cost of employees (wages) continues to increase dramatically, many businesses will find it unprofitable to operate in Key West.
