what is test plan?

A test  plan is a specification which contains the details of a test scenaria captured. A testplan will have the complete information of what is required to execute the test.

1)planning for resource
2)decide the required skill man power
3)the exact feature/functionality/performance etc to be tested is well documented
4)The approximate time lines for testing the software peice
5)The complete description,procedure, expected result, comments etc will be provided
6)The validation results to be stored

All the above and few more information regarding the testig of a software in peice and system level is called testplan.

test plan is a document which defines scope,approach,resource and schedule of a testing activity.

we prepare a road map for how do achieve the goal,it is a document.it has all details about the test tasks, schedules,environment, features, tools,  training,  risks, approvals,test deliverables,suspension and resumption,pass or fail criteria,and approach.

Test plan is a document which helps the tester to understand how the testing should be done.
A test plan includes the following:
a)Scope
b)Description ( describes the testing goal)
c) Test strategy ( Methods/ techniques used for testing)
d) Schedule for testing
e)Testing environment
f) Resources needed for testing the product
g) Roles and responsibilities for each tester

A document describing the scope, approach, resources, and schedule of intended test activities. It identifies test items, the features to be tested, the testing tasks, who will do each task, and any risks requiring contingency planning.

2)Test Strategy
3)Test Entry Criteria
4)Test Exit Criteria
5)Resources and Schedules
6)Assumptions and Resumption Requirements
