I believe if you are able to sleep and get REM sleep you should be able to lucid dream. Try keeping a dream journal at first to record any dreams you may have.

I suffer from insomnia, but I still have lucid dreams often.  I took ambien nightly for about a year, and when I stopped 'cold turkey' I had lucid dreams every night for about a month (after about 4 days with no sleep mind you).

I suffer from chronic insomnia, but when I do sleep, I am always lucid. Is there a connection between lucid dreaming and insomnia?
