Dont know what your nationality is etc.  But if you have an ongoing ticket to India and you are transiting London for a night or two, the immigration officer will stamp you a transit entry permit.  I am Indian and I have traveled to Russia before and transited in London and it was no problem.  My wife is Russian and she transited at one time in London as well while traveling to US and they granted her a transit permit at Heathrow.  This could change if you are of another nationality, so check on the Heathrow airport website or with the UK consulate or Embassy before leaving.
