Well if you want to know what pH stands for when your talking about water...it stands for potential hydrogen.

The term, pH, was originally coined by S.P.L. Sorensen in 1909. It actually stands for pontus hydrogenii (Latin for "potential of hydrogen"). It was originally thought to be a measurement of the concentration of hydrogen ions in a liquid solution. Later, Sorensen discovered it was actually a function of the "activity" of the hydrogen ion.

That Jason did. Also pH levels go from 0-14. 7 is nuetral. Below 7 is acidic, while above 7 is alkilinity.
